Technology Overview

Electrochromic films are able to switch between opaque to transparent under the application of an electric field.

Typical commercial applications: privacy filters, smart windows and mirrors (e.g. darkening a window to control the inlet of sun light), active optical filters (e.g. sunglasses) and displays (eg. electronic paper).

Electrochromic film with NUS Electrodes is superior to commercially available electrochromic panels as it demonstrates lower power consumption, increased flexibility (100 × more flexible than glass) and non-volatile operation (no power needed to maintain transparent state) The above qualities are not available in typical films.

Development Status

Work is in progress to:

  1. Further develop NUS electrode film fabrication techniques for scaling up
  2. Explore different NUS electrode film fabrication processes
  3. Investigate various NUS electrode material combinations
